Kolkata, June 22 -- The West Bengal government's first budget for 2026-27 Monday, announced a major increase in remuneration for civic volunteers and several categories of frontline workers, fulfilling a key promise made by the BJP ahead of coming to power in the state.
Before the change in government in West Bengal, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari had repeatedly assured civic volunteers and Green Police personnel that if the BJP came to power, they would receive a more respectable salary structure.
That commitment was reflected in today's budget presentation by Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta.
