New Delhi, May 12 -- Olympic medallist Sakshi Malik has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in Vinesh Phogat's ongoing tussle with the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), backing her fellow grappler after she was denied participation in the National Open Ranking Tournament in Gonda.

Vinesh, who reversed her retirement decision last year, was barred from competing after the WFI issued her a show-cause notice alleging that she missed dope tests.

Despite the controversy, Vinesh travelled to Gonda on Monday hoping to compete in the tournament, but she was not allowed to participate.
