Mysuru, July 12 -- Legendary playback singer S Janaki was cremated with full State honours in Mysuru on Sunday as thousands of grieving fans, eminent artistes and political leaders gathered to bid an emotional farewell to one of India's greatest musical icons whose voice defined Indian cinema across generations.
The 88-year-old singer's mortal remains were kept at Maharaja's College Grounds for public homage before being taken in a flower-bedecked procession to Kaniyanahundi village in Heggadadevanakote taluk, where her last rites were performed by her granddaughter, Apsara, according to Andhra Brahmin traditions. People lined the route, showering flowers and chanting tributes as the cortege passed.
