Kyiv, Aug. 5 -- At least 17 people were killed and 44 injured after Russia launched a major overnight missile and drone attack on Kyiv and surrounding regions, Ukrainian officials said on Wednesday.

The assault, one of the deadliest strikes on the Ukrainian capital this year, involved more than two dozen ballistic and anti-ship missiles along with more than 100 drones. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said none of the ballistic missiles were intercepted and argued that additional air defence systems could have prevented many casualties.
