Aizawl, Aug. 17 -- Mizoram is taking a major step towards reducing its dependence on imported eggs, with the state government setting up a mega egg production farm at Thenzawl capable of housing at least one lakh hens.
Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister C. Lalsawivunga said on Monday that the Rs 20.63-crore project was expected to produce between 70,000 and 75,000 fresh eggs a day once operational.
Addressing Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) workers at the party office in Aizawl, the Minister said the initiative was part of the government's broader efforts to make Mizoram self-sufficient in the production of eggs, milk and meat.
