Pune, June 9 -- The Republican Party of India (Athawale faction) has set its sights on the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections scheduled in 2027 posing a potential challenge to the backward class vote blocs of both the ruling Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj party.

Dr. Hulgesh Chalwadi, State Vice President of the RPI (Athawale) told mediapersins here on Tuesday that the recent visit of union Minister of State for Social Justice and national president of the Republican Party of India, Ramdas Athawale, to Varanasi has galvanised the dalits, oppressed and backward classes with great expectations.
