Mysuru, July 11 -- A fresh controversy has erupted over the Karnataka government's proposal to include the traditional buffalo race Kambala in this year's Mysuru Dasara, with Mysuru-Kodagu MP and royal scion Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar urging the government not to tamper with the centuries-old heritage festival.

Maintaining that Mysuru Dasara is not merely a cultural event but a historic institution with a unique identity, Yaduveer said the festival has evolved over centuries as a symbol of the legacy of the erstwhile Mysore kingdom and should not be transformed by introducing traditions that belong to other regions.
