Bhubaneswar, July 14 -- Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) is gearing up for a massive greenfield expansion aimed at more than doubling its annual production capacity from the existing 4.65 million tonnes to 9.8 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).
RSP sources said the ambitious expansion project will be undertaken on land owned by the steel plant adjacent to its existing facilities at an estimated investment of over Rs 30,000 crore.
To facilitate the futuristic expansion, families living in huts on the identified RSP land are being provided financial assistance and a range of rehabilitation benefits, including housing plots near Deogaon, contractual employment and medical facilities.
