Mumbai, May 31 -- Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) MLA Rohit Pawar on Sunday reiterated his strong support for onion growers and warned both the Central and Maharashtra governments that the ongoing agitation would be intensified if farmers' demands were not accepted immediately.
In a post on X, Pawar highlighted the severe financial distress being faced by onion cultivators amid a sharp collapse in market prices.
Pawar stated that while the production cost of onions currently stands between Rs 18 and Rs 20 per kilogram, farmers should receive a minimum price of Rs 25 per kilogram. He demanded that the government provide a subsidy of Rs 15 per kilogram to farmers who have already sold their produce at distress prices.
