Nagpur, Sept. 8 -- : NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) MLA Rohit Pawar on Tuesday demanded that the Maharashtra government immediately declare drought in regions that have received 20 per cent less rainfall than normal, citing severe distress among farmers due to deficient monsoon rains.
Addressing a press conference during his Bhandara-Gondia tour, Pawar said Vidarbha has recorded nearly 40 per cent below-average rainfall this season, adversely affecting soybean, cotton and paddy crops.
He urged the state government to provide immediate relief to farmers facing mounting losses.
Pawar also criticised the government's farm loan waiver policy and paddy procurement pricing, alleging that both have failed to adequately address farmers' concerns.
