Kolkata, July 11 -- The rebel Trinamool Congress faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee on Saturday stepped up its challenge to Mamata Banerjee's leadership by announcing 17 district presidents and a panel of party spokespersons as part of its parallel organisational structure across West Bengal.

The announcement came less than 24 hours after the faction named former minister Biplab Mitra as its state president and former MLA Javed Khan as working president following a marathon organisational meeting in Topsia on Friday.

Saturday's move is being seen as the next phase of the group's efforts to establish an alternative organisational network at the district level.
