Glasgow, July 26 -- India opened its weightlifting campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games with a silver medal as Rishikanta Singh delivered a record-breaking performance in the men's 60kg category, finishing second with a total lift of 264kg on Saturday.

Rishikanta lit up the competition by setting a new Commonwealth Games record in the snatch with a superb 121kg lift, eclipsing the previous Games mark. The Indian was flawless in the snatch, successfully clearing 116kg and 119kg before producing the record-breaking effort on his third and final attempt to finish the opening phase tied for the lead with Malaysia's Mohamad Aniq bin Kasdan.
