Srinagar, May 15 -- National Conference President and former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah on Friday demanded immediate restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, saying the Centre must honour the assurances made before Parliament and the Supreme Court that statehood would be restored after the elections.

He said the 2018-2024 phase in Jammu and Kashmir proved that bureaucratic administration can never substitute a democratically elected government that remains deeply connected with the aspirations, emotions and day-to-day concerns of the people.

The veteran politician made these comments while addressing a gathering at Anantnag.
