Chandigarh, April 22 -- Tensions flared in Punjab on Wednesday as residents in Amritsar forcibly entered a power grid station to restore electricity supply, protesting against scheduled 8-10 hour outages amidst a prevailing heatwave.
The protesters allegedly broke through the facility's gate and tampered with the feeder to reinstate power, leading to scuffles with on-duty staff.
Punjab Power Minister Sanjeev Arora took to social media to express regret for the inconvenience caused to consumers. He clarified that the outages are part of a necessary modernization drive to upgrade distribution infrastructure and ensure long-term grid stability.
