Kolkata, April 23 -- Under an unprecedented security cover, a record 92.71 per cent of the 3.60 crore plus electorate exercised their mandate in a "largely peaceful" round one of the two-phase West Bengal Assembly elections, barring stray incidents of violence on Thursday.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) said 92.71 per cent of the electors exercised their democratic rights, the figure constituting an over ten per cent jump over the polling figure of 82.3 per cent registered in the 2021.
According to ECI data, Cooch Behar district recorded the highest voter turnout at 95.78 per cent, followed by South Dinajpur district (95.39 pc).
Kalimpong district recorded the lowest at 83.06 per cent.
