Bengaluru, Aug. 31 -- A political controversy has erupted in Karnataka over Minister Basavaraj Rayareddy's remarks on Islam and Hinduism, with the BJP mounting an aggressive attack and demanding that he publicly apologise or quit the State Cabinet.
The controversy intensified after Rayareddy, speaking at a programme in Koppal, described Islam as having "superior" qualities and expressed his desire to visit Mecca. His remarks drew sharp criticism from the Opposition, which accused the Minister of denigrating Hinduism.
Facing mounting criticism, Rayareddy defended his comments at Kalaburagi, saying he had only spoken about the good and superior aspects of Islam and had never claimed that other religions were inferior.
