Shimla, Aug. 6 -- A rare Himalayan serow has been recorded on camera in the Chhota Kamba beat of Rupi Bhaba Wildlife Sanctuary in Himachal Pradesh's Kinnaur district, marking the first confirmed camera documentation of the elusive mountain ungulate from the area.
The sighting was made by a Forest Department patrol team during routine field surveillance.
Forest Guard Surender Dhali recorded photographs and video footage of the animal, making it the first confirmed camera record of the Himalayan serow from the Chhota Kamba beat, officials said.
The Himalayan serow, known for its shy and solitary behaviour, inhabits dense forests and steep mountainous slopes, making sightings of the species extremely rare.
