Itanagar, May 18 -- A rare flowering plant species, Geum macrosepalum, believed to have remained unrecorded in India for nearly 120 years, has been rediscovered in the alpine regions of Arunachal Pradesh near the strategically significant Se La Pass.
The rediscovery was made by researchers from the Botanical Survey of India (BSI) during a survey in the high-altitude regions of western Arunachal Pradesh, reaffirming the state's immense ecological and biodiversity significance, officials said on Monday.
Endemic to the Eastern Himalayas, the species was last documented in India in 1905 from Sikkim. Researchers found the plant growing in alpine meadows at an altitude of around 4,200 metres.
