Raigad, July 12 -- A rare albino Alligator Gar, an exotic freshwater fish native to North America, has been found dead in the Amba River near Wavhe village in Sudhagad taluka of Maharashtra's Raigad district, creating curiosity among local residents and wildlife enthusiasts.

The unusual fish was spotted by local residents Kailas Hilam and Ketan Mhaske while they were walking along the riverbank. Its striking yellow-orange colour immediately caught their attention, as the Alligator Gar is normally dark olive, brown or grey in appearance.

Experts said the unusual colour could be due to albinism, a rare genetic condition caused by the absence or deficiency of natural pigments in the body.
