Kolkata, Sept. 22 -- The Election Commission announced that a Rajya Sabha by-election will be held on October 16 in West Bengal to fill the seat vacated by former Trinamool Congress MP and actor Koel Mallick, bringing the election process to the state during the Durga Puja festivities.
According to a notification by the election commission on Tuesday, the polling will be held on Maha Shashthi.
The last date for filing nominations is October 6, while candidates can withdraw their nominations till October 9.
The by-election will be held alongside elections to 10 Rajya Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh and one in Uttarakhand.
