Lucknow, July 13 -- Defence Minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh on Monday urged doctors to ensure that their conduct is as healing as the medicines they prescribe, cautioning against the impact of "white coat syndrome",a condition in which patients become anxious or intimidated in the presence of doctors.

Addressing the 22nd convocation ceremony of King George's Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow, Singh said a doctor's empathy and communication are as important as clinical expertise.

"Sometimes patients become nervous upon seeing a doctor, a condition known as white coat syndrome. Along with the medication you prescribe, your behavior should also be healing," he said.
