Chhapra, July 25 -- A major train accident was averted in the early hours today after the Dibrugarh-New Delhi Rajdhani Express struck a water tank that had allegedly been placed on the railway track near Gautamsthan railway station on the Chhapra-Varanasi section of the Northeast Railway in Saran district.

According to railway sources, the Rajdhani Express departed from Chhapra Junction at around 1:41 a.m. and was heading towards its next destination. As the train approached a railway crossing near Vijay Rai''s Tola, about 100 metres west of Gautamsthan railway station, the locomotive collided with a water tank kept on the tracks.
