Mumbai, Sept. 6 -- Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Sunday alleged that non-Marathi speakers were being deliberately prompted to make provocative remarks over the issue of learning Marathi in an attempt to create controversy and draw Marathi-speaking people into a confrontation.
Addressing a gathering in Thane, Thackeray claimed that statements such as "What can these Marathi people do?" and "We will not speak Marathi" were being deliberately made to provoke a reaction.
He also referred to the upcoming Hindi-language conference in Navi Mumbai, saying that reports about a Hindi conference being organised in Maharashtra has already triggered a political debate.
