New Delhi, July 2 -- The opening T20I between India and England ended without a result after heavy rain prevented the hosts from beginning their chase of 190 at the Riverside Ground on Wednesday.
Rain arrived just as India's innings ended at 189/7, forcing the ground staff to cover the pitch. The downpour soon intensified and continued until the cut-off time for a five-over match at 9 pm local time. With no improvement in conditions, the umpires called off the game. Both captains came out to shake hands before returning to their dressing rooms.
Earlier, India recovered from a poor start to post a competitive total, thanks to impressive knocks from captain Shreyas Iyer, Abhishek Sharma and Shivam Dube.
