Panchkula, Sept. 23 -- The Railway Board has ordered all zonal railways to enforce a Rs 1,000 penalty for violations affecting cleanliness at railway premises, replacing the earlier provision of a fine of up to Rs 500, and directed officials to widely publicise the revised penalty regime.
Under the Indian Railways (Penalties for activities affecting cleanliness at railway premises) Amendment Rules, 2026, notified by the Ministry of Railways, a person violating the rules will be liable to a penalty of Rs 1,000.
If the offender fails to pay the penalty, the person will be produced before a competent court having jurisdiction, which may impose a fine of up to Rs 2,000, according to Gazette Notification G.S.R. 758(E).
