Jamshedpur, April 27 -- A railway employee was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the Bagbera police station area of Jamshedpur late Sunday night, police said.
The deceased was identified as G K Gautam, a resident of Adityapur and a loco pilot with the railways.
According to police, the incident took place near the railway lobby gate at Station Chowk around 11:45 pm when motorcycle-borne assailants opened fire at Gautam.
He sustained bullet injuries and was rushed to Tata Main Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Eyewitnesses said one of the bullets hit his head, causing him to collapse on the spot. The assailants fled immediately after the incident.
