Doha, July 12 -- Qatar's Father Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who ruled the country for 18 years and is widely regarded as the architect of modern Qatar, died on Sunday at the age of 74, the Amiri Diwan, the office of the country's ruler, announced.
"With hearts steadfast in faith in God's decree and destiny, the Amiri Diwan mourns the great loss to the nation of the late- may God have mercy on him- His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who passed away this morning," the Amiri Diwan said in a statement.
The funeral prayer for Sheikh Hamad will be held after the Maghrib prayer on Sunday at the Imam Muhammad bin Abdul Wahab Mosque, after which he will be laid to rest at Lusail Cemetery, the statement sai...
