California, June 25 -- Qatar earned their first-ever FIFA World Cup point after captain Boualem Khoukhi struck deep into stoppage time to salvage a dramatic 1-1 draw against Switzerland in a Group B encounter at Levi's Stadium here on Thursday IST.
Switzerland appeared set for victory after striker Breel Embolo converted a penalty in the 17th minute following a foul by goalkeeper Meshaal Abunada on Remo Freuler.
The Swiss dominated much of the contest and created a host of chances, repeatedly threatening to extend their lead. Embolo, Ruben Vargas and Johan Manzambi all came close as Switzerland piled pressure on the Qatari defence.
