Sydney, June 10 -- Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu and emerging star Tanvi Sharma sailed into the second round of the women's singles event at the Australian Badminton Open 2026 tournament here on Wednesday.
Sindhu, 10th in the badminton rankings, took 32 minutes to overcome Peru's world No. 76 Ines Castillo 21-13, 21-11 in the first-round clash of the BWF Super 500 badminton tournament atthe Olympic Boulevard.
Sindhu's pre-quarterfinal match will be against compatriot and world No. 39 Isharani Baruah, who defeated People's Republic of China's Han Qianxi 22-20, 10-21, 21-14 in her opener. It will be the first head-to-head meeting between the two Indian badminton players, according to olympics.com.
