Chandigarh, March 6 -- Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan on Friday launched a sharp attack on the Central Government, criticizing its "disappointing silence" over the United States' decision to grant India a 30-day waiver to purchase oil from Russia.

Sandhwan asserted that India is a sovereign and independent nation that should not operate under deadlines or permissions imposed by external powers.

He emphasised that decisions regarding international trade and energy security must be guided solely by national interest, rather than the directives of any other country.
