Chandigarh, May 14 -- the Election Commission's decision to launch a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Punjab and Chandigarh from June 15 has triggered a political controversy, with the Congress party raising concerns over the timing and intent of the exercise.
While the Commission describes the door-to-door verification drive as a routine and necessary update of the state's 2.14 crore voters ahead of the 2027 elections, the Punjab Congress has alleged that the process could be misused to influence the voter list and alter electoral outcomes.
Expressing grave concerns over the transparency of the process, Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring alleged that the SIR could be used as a tool for "fraudulen...
