Chandigarh, Oct. 8 -- Punjab Police arrested 251 people during 557 raids targeting suspected gangster associates across the state on Thursday, taking the cumulative arrests under its anti-gangster campaign to 77,071, according to official figures.
The statewide operation, conducted on the 261st day of the "Gangstran Te Vaar" campaign, also resulted in the seizure of a weapon and the arrest of seven proclaimed offenders.
Police said preventive action was taken against another 187 individuals.
The campaign, launched on January 20 under Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, involves district police units working in coordination with the Anti-Gangster Task Force.
