Chandigarh, June 5 -- : A Punjab-based Muslim organisation has submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking enhanced measures for cow protection, including a proposal to accord the animal a special national status, while also calling for strict action against cattle smuggling and mob violence carried out in its name.

The representation was submitted through the office of Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner Varjeet Singh Walia and has been forwarded to the Prime Minister's Office for consideration.
