Chandigarh, May 19 -- Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday launched a pilot project to shift overhead electricity wires underground from his native village Satoj in Sangrur district, describing the initiative as a "historic step" that would transform rural infrastructure and improve public safety.
Addressing a gathering at the launch event, Mann said the day would be remembered in "golden letters" as no other state had conceptualised such a project at this scale for villages. He said only those leaders who had personally faced the problems caused by overhead electricity lines could think of such a solution.
