Chandigarh, April 15 -- Expressing strong resentment over the stalled procurement of wheat and the lack of relaxation in quality specifications, several prominent farmer organizations in Punjab have jointly announced a statewide 'Rail Roko' (train blockade) on April 17.
The decision was taken during a coordinated meeting involving unions associated with the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (Punjab Chapter), and the Azad Kisan Morcha. The unions have warned that if the government fails to initiate immediate purchase and address their grievances, they will halt rail traffic across the state from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Friday.
