Chandigarh, April 13 -- The Punjab Legislative Assembly on Monday unanimously passed the 'Jagat Jyot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Bill-2026', which proposes life imprisonment, up to death, for the sacrilege of the holy scripture. The bill was moved by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann during a special session of the House, aiming to provide the strictest possible legal deterrent against acts of desecration.
While introducing the legislation, Chief Minister Mann clarified that the current amendment specifically addresses the sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib.
