Pune, Aug. 14 -- A special MP/MLA court in Pune has rejected an intervention application filed by Dr Pankaj Phadnis, seeking to intervene in the criminal defamation case against Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi over alleged defamatory remarks concerning freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.
The case is being heard before Judge Amol Shriram Shinde of the Special MP/MLA Court in Pune.
The criminal defamation complaint was filed by Satyaki Savarkar, a descendant of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, alleging that Rahul Gandhi made defamatory remarks about Savarkar during a speech in London.
Satyaki Savarkar is currently being cross-examined by Rahul Gandhi's lawyer, Advocate Milind Pawar.
