Pune, Aug. 10 -- The reduced storage capacity of Khadakwasla Dam, a key source of water supply for Pune city and adjoining areas, is a serious and long-term concern. The Centre should coordinate with the concerned agencies and take immediate measures to restore the dam's storage capacity, Rajya Sabha MP Prof. Dr. Medha Kulkarni has demanded.

She drew the government's attention to the issue through a Special Mention in the Upper House.

Khadakwasla Dam originally had a storage capacity of around 3.75 TMC. However, due to the accumulation of silt over several decades, the dam's effective storage capacity has declined by more than half and currently stands at around 1.75 TMC, Dr. Kulkarni said.
