Shillong, July 29 -- Former Meghalaya Minister and veteran BJP leader, Alexander Laloo Hek on Wednesday appealed to Meghalaya's Rajya Sabha member James Sangma to ensure that genuine charitable organisations, including Christian institutions and non-governmental organisations, are not adversely affected by the implementation of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA).
In a letter addressed to Sangma, Hek said charitable institutions have, for decades, played a vital role in providing education, healthcare, shelter and social support to the poorest and most vulnerable sections of society without discrimination on the basis of religion, caste, tribe or community.
