New Delhi, Aug. 5 -- Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday demanded that union Home Minister Amit Shah take responsibility for the alleged police action against students protesting over examination-related issues, asserting that the Home Minister is accountable to the people and could not evade responsibility in a democracy.

Speaking to reporters in the Parliament complex amid continuing protests by Opposition parties during the Monsoon Session, Priyanka Gandhi said the office held by the union Home Minister carried responsibilities towards the citizens of the country.

"The position that Amit Shah holds comes with responsibilities towards the people. This is a democracy, not someone's royal court," she said.
