Hamirpur(HP), May 10 -- Advisor to National Communicable Disease Control Programme Dr Naresh Purohit has made it clear thatprevention remains the strongest defence against Hantavirus infection while awareness and environmental hygiene are far more important than spreading panic.
Dr Purohit laid emphasis onenvironmental hygiene becausethe infection is linked mainly to rodent exposure, not casual human contact.
In a release here after the recent international reports about a Hantavirus outbreak linked to the expedition cruise ship MV Hondius, the noted Epidemiologist Dr Purohit stated that Hantavirus is a rare RNA virus mainly carried by rodents such as rats and mice.
