Siliguri, March 7 -- President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday raised concerns over development gaps and educational challenges facing the Santhal community while addressing the ninth conference of the International Santhal Council near Bagdogra.

She also called for proper documentation of the history and contributions of tribal communities, particularly the Santhals, in India's freedom struggle.

After attending the conference, the President visited a site at Bidhannagar where the event was originally planned to be held.

Interacting with local residents, she said she had been informed that permission was not granted for organising the conference at that location despite adequate space being available.
