Pune, Aug. 15 -- On the occasion of India's 80th Independence Day, Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma hoisted the national flag at Vidhan Bhavan in Pune on Saturday.

Freedom fighters, ex-servicemen, elected representatives, senior administrative officials and dignitaries from various fields were present at the ceremony.

On the occasion, Governor Varma paid tribute to the freedom fighters who made sacrifices for the country's independence and called upon citizens to contribute actively to the nation's progress.

Freedom is not merely about political independence; it also comes with responsibilities for citizens, the Governor said.
