Kolkata, May 15 -- West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Friday said the state police would immediately act against all those allegedly involved in the post-poll violence that followed the 2021Assembly elections, while asserting that every FIR registered in connection with the incidents would be investigated and the guilty sent to jail.
The remarks by the chief minister triggered sharp exchanges in the Assembly during the opening sitting of the Eighteenth West Bengal Legislative Assembly, held primarily for the election of the new Speaker. The confrontation began after Leader of the Opposition Shovandeb Chattopadhyay alleged continued post-poll violence and claimed that several people had been forced to flee their homes.
