Guwahati, April 9 -- Amidst great enthusiasm and long queues of electors before polling booths, voting began for the single-phase Assam Assembly election amidst heightened security at 7 am on Thursday.
From smartly turned out first time voters to the colourfully decked up women and the seasoned senior citizens, everybody seemed in high spirits as many of them reached the booths much before the start of polling to take part in the biggest festival of democracy.
The polling in all the 126 seats will officially close at 6 pm, but those who queue up at the booths by that time would be allowed to exercise their franchise even beyond the scheduled time.
