Chandigarh, Sept. 29 -- Punjab Police have busted an illegal drug de-addiction centre operating from a roadside eatery near the Chandigarh-Ludhiana national highway in Samrala and rescued 133 people, including seven proclaimed offenders and seven bail jumpers, an official said on Tuesday.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Pritpal Singh Sandhu said the facility was being run illegally and its operators were collecting between Rs 25 lakh and Rs 30 lakh a month from families in the name of treatment.
Police said 40 of those found at the facility had criminal cases registered against them, including cases involving drug trafficking, theft and robbery. Some minors were also rescued during the operation.
