Muzaffarabad, July 4 -- Amid intensifying demonstrations, protesters in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) have called for a region-wide shutdown on July 5, alleging a sweeping crackdown by Pakistani authorities and urging residents across the region to join demonstrations against what they describe as repression and human rights abuses.
Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) leader Sardar Aman Khan appealed to people in Srinagar, Jammu, Poonch, Rajouri and Ladakh to stand in solidarity with residents of PoK, claiming authorities had intensified pressure on protesters.
"We have faced atrocities. Our food has been stopped," Khan said in a video message, alleging that food supplies had been disrupted as part of efforts to suppress the movement.
