Mumbai, Aug. 20 -- Amid intense political debate over financial welfare schemes in Maharashtra, the State's Higher and Technical Education Department has proposed providing a monthly "pocket money" allowance of Rs 2,000 to female students pursuing higher education.
However, the potential move has drawn sharp criticism from Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena (MNVS) President Amit Thackeray, who hit out at the government, urging them to fix failing college infrastructure instead of distributing "freebies."MNVS is the student wing of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS).
The proposal was initially hinted at by Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil during an interactive session with students and teachers in Mumbai.
