Peaceful voting despite sporadic incidents, early trends point to high turnout in phase two
Kolkata April 29 (UNI) The polling in the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections on Wednesday - apart from some sporadic incidents of EVM malfunctioning - remained largely peaceful, with early trends indicating a strong voter turnout following the record-breaking participation in the first phase.According to initial data released by the Election Commission of India, the overall voter turnout stood at 18.39 per cent in the first two hours of polling.A district-wise break-up showed that Purba Bardhaman with 20.86 per cent recorded highest turnout followed by Hooghly at 20.16 per cent.Nadia recorded 18.50 per cent turnout, while North 24 Parganas registered 17.81 per cent and Howrah 17.76 per cent.South 24 Parganas saw 17.25 per ce...
