Mumbai, May 15 -- Maharashtra Food and Civil Supplies Minister Chhagan Bhujbal has announced that the Central Government has paved the way for a caste-based census following persistent demands for a separate enumeration of Other Backward Classes (OBCs).

According to an official communication from the Central Government, a caste-based census will be conducted during the second phase of Census 2027.

Minister Bhujbal pointed out that in Question 12 of the 'House-listing' phase (Phase 1), the social classification options were limited to "Scheduled Castes," "Scheduled Tribes," and "Others."
